Plasma Rich Platelet (PRP) Treatment

What is PRP Treatment?

Plasma is the liquid part of your blood that’s mostly made of water and protein. It lets red and white blood cells and platelets move through your bloodstream. Platelets are a type of blood cell that makes your blood clot. They also play a role in healing. Doctors may use platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on injuries or damage to tendons, ligaments, muscles, joints, and skin.

How is PRP Treatment used?

To collect plasma, a doctor draws blood from your body and uses a machine to separate the platelet-rich plasma from the rest of the blood. Then the doctor numbs the area of your body being treated. Once you’re numb, the doctor will inject the PRP with a tiny needle to the problematic area of your skin.  Thereafter microneedling will be done on the area with the remainer of the plasma.

How does it work?

Once platelets are in the area that’s being treated, they break down and release growth factors, which are compounds that help cells repair and renew. This is thought to trigger your body’s healing process.

How is a PRP Treatment done?

After a blood sample is obtained from a patient, the blood is put into a centrifuge, which is a tool that separates the blood into its many components. Platelet-rich plasma can then be collected and treated before it is delivered to an injured area of bone or soft tissue, such as a tendon, ligament or skin.

How long does a PRP Treatment last?

PRP treatment can be repeated every three months. This process usually takes around two hours.
